Public
reading of Contes sauvages (Deep tales of the Forest)
/ Book sale and signing
Tuesday, May 29, 5pm @AFpenang
Language:
reading in French and Malay. Presentation/Conference in French and English.
This
collection of traditional animal tales presents a wide range of traditional
Mousedeer stories, directly adapted from ancient Malay original versions.
The Mousedeer, called Kancil or Pelanduk, is the little hero of the Malay
/ Indonesian Archipelago, and the stories here trace their ancestry from
both sides of the Malacca Straits, and from the XVI° and XVIIth centuries.
They are one of the lesser known Asian counterparts to the Western Renard
the Fox, or the La Fontaine Fables, with which they indeed share numerous
common Indian and Arabo-islamic ancestors. The stories selected range
from very famous children tales to a very rare comic novel,
and therefore will please all public being able to enjoy French.
